Robert Laliberte was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1955. He still resides in Colorado Springs. While earning a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Colorado, he studied fine art. Later, he completed a Masters of Architecture, also at the University of Colorado. Since that time he has worked in the design profession.

"My art has evolved over the years from an interest in Surrealism and Visionary art and the spectacular scenery of the western U.S. During the last few years, I have become fascinated with the wild and gorgeous scenery of the slick rock country of southern Utah and northern Arizona. Much of this area has an inherently surrealistic quality all its own without any artistic manipulation. I have borrowed ideas for many of my recent paintings from some of the remote locations that I have explored and photograhed in this area. I rarely will replicate a photograph that I've taken on canvas. I like to use elements or ideas from different photographs to come up with a landscape that exists nowhere on earth. A lot of the enjoyment that I derive from painting comes from the process and not always the finished product. I like the challenge of trying to resolve different elements into a single composition. Also, I find painting very relaxing and theraputic.”
